Orchestra Baobab LP

Orchestra Baobab is an Afro-Cuban, Son, Wolof, and Pachanga band. I was assigned to create a new special edition cover for their album Specialist in All Styles. The cover, inside and back cover are all old photographs of what one would picture when thinking of an orchestra. I then took these photographs and covered them with colors and patterns derived from textile patterns originating in the region of Africa the band comes from. The pattern can then be scratched away with a coin to reveal the name of the band, the name of the album, the track listing, and the band's story.

Grain Audio Redesign

Grain Audio is a company that specializes in headphones and speakers. What makes their products so unique is the custom wood enclosure of each item. The sound is rich and full. Unlike their products, the company's web presence was underwhelming. The goal of this redesign was to give Grain Audio's brand and web presence the same nostalgic feeling of their products. The strategy behind the rebrand was to sell consumers on the lifestyle that goes along with Grain Audio.

Life Cereal Commercial

I directed and shot this stop motion video as a commercial for life cereal. The spot features an egg monster coming to life and terrorizing the other breakfast items by maliciously eating the bowl of cereal on the table.

DropZero: Snowboarding App

DropZero is an interactive mountain map for snowboarders and skiers. Using geotags, users can drop photos, videos, stats, injuries, and weather updates on the slopes for other users to see. Users may also use the app as a platform for competition to see who truly is the king of the slopes.

New York Earth Room Poster Series

The scope of this project was to create a series of three posters to promote the New York Earth Room. The New York Earth Room is a long term art installation by Walter DeMaria. The installation is essentially a SoHo apartment which is filled with two feet of soil. For the posters, I simply created a typeface of letters halfway filled with color to represent the room itself.

Toothsome Typeface

Toothsome is a typeface designed to be elegant and new. The classical type is extended vertically to mimic the long and elegant forms of a tooth.

Tennis, Tornadoes, Trigonometry

The task assigned was to create a book cover for the essay Tennis, Trigonometry, Tornadoes: A Midwestern Boyhood by David Foster Wallace. The story was about coming to terms with his approaching adulthood while growing up in the small midwestern town of Philo Illinois. The solution for the cover was a simple abstracted map of the world David Foster Wallace wrote about in the essay.

Matchbook Posters

I drew three words out of a hat. Matchbook, craftsperson, and concept. I was tasked with creating something based on these three words. My solution was a pack of posters which are printed with the glass powder used for striking matches on. The posters are hanging matchbooks for your walls which you can strike a match on when needed. Each poster features a fire related image or phrase.

Doomsday Weather

Doomsday Weather is an app catered towards doomsday preppers or just general pessimists. Incorporating some dark humor and meteorology the aim of this app is to stick out in a market flooded with other weather apps. The app consists of three menu items. First is the weather, next is the threat level made, and finally is the map. Doomsday Weather runs on a system of colors ranging from blue to red, blue being a nice sunny day, and red being catastrophic, end of the world level weather.

Dada Manuals

The Dada Manuals are a compilation of fifteen surreal objects paired with an instruction manual. A surreal, or Dada object is inherently lacking in function. The goal of the project is to design surreal instruction manuals for each of the fifteen objects made for the book. Each manual is done in another language to further the ideas of confusion and lack of practical functionality. The following are three iterations out of the original fifteen.

Honeycomb Typeface

Honeycomb is a typeface designed to mimic the hexagonal pattern of a beehive.
